The Godfather Classic Movie series hosted some of the biggest names in Hollywood. From Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone –the Godfather, to Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen the “adopted son”, Al Pacino as Don Michael Corleone, who played the “Godfather’s” namesake son, James Caan as Santino “Sonny” Corleone, and Robert DeNiro as Young Vito Corleone, the young son of the “Godfather”.. These men went on to become some of the top male actors in Hollywood’s history. The two leading ladies of the series have become top rated actresses as well, with Diane Keaton, as Kay Adams Corleone eventual wife and ex wife of Michael Corleone and Talia Shire, as Connie Carleone Rizzi, the daughter of “The Godfather”.
Far from the traditional roles we have later experienced with these actors this dark, sinister and dysfunctional classic paved the way for many of these actors starring roles in many other films. While this was Marlon Brando’s feature film, Robert Duvall became well known for movies from drama to western’s and even a few great Christmas Classics. James Caan, while noted for this film, was also the main character in quite a few other major movies, including his noted role in Brian’s Song. The headline movie was a classic tragic story of a football hero who dies amid a heightened career. Robert DeNiro has played in everything from action and drama movies to comedies, and Al Pacino has led the way through a whole series of action and drama movies. Diane Keaton has had roles in many more substantive movies than this film, including one alongside Jack Nicholson in Something’s Gotta Give”, a light and playful mid life comedy. Finally, Talia Shire is best known for her role as Adrian-Rocky Balboa’s wife in the “Rocky” series.
